The Challenge: You have a digital photo and you want to print it to fit exactly into a 4x6 inch frame, or a 35x45 mm locket. But digital images are measured in pixels, not inches. How do you convert them?
If you just hit "Print" on your computer, the printer often guesses the size, stretching it to fill the page or shrinking it too small. To get an exact physical size, you need to resize your image to the correct pixel dimensions before printing.
Printers use a standard called DPI (Dots Per Inch). For high-quality photo prints, the standard is 300 DPI. This means the printer prints 300 tiny dots of ink for every inch of paper.
To find your pixel size, you just use this simple formula:
Pixels = Inches × 300
| Print Size (Inches) | Print Size (cm) | Required Pixels (300 DPI) |
|---|---|---|
| 4 x 6" (Standard Photo) | 10 x 15 cm | 1200 x 1800 px |
| 5 x 7" | 13 x 18 cm | 1500 x 2100 px |
| 8 x 10" | 20 x 25 cm | 2400 x 3000 px |
| A4 Paper | 21 x 29.7 cm | 2480 x 3508 px |
| Passport (US/India) | 5 x 5 cm (2x2") | 600 x 600 px |
| Passport (UK/EU) | 3.5 x 4.5 cm | 413 x 531 px |
You can do this instantly using EasyImageCR.in:
If you have a unique frame size, like 3.2 inches, just multiply by 300.
Example: 3.2 inches × 300 = 960 pixels.
If you have Centimeters, divide by 2.54 to get inches, then multiply by 300.
Example: 4 cm / 2.54 = 1.57 inches. 1.57 × 300 = 471 pixels.
